André,
Just saying your name evokes an avalanche of adjectives and qualities: kind, devoted, cheerful, enjoying life, faithful, warm, constructive, discreet, considerate, interesting, energetic, amusing, cultivated, organised, generous, curious, open-minded and many more... A man of many interests, your enthusiasm and passion for motorbikes and cars both vintage and sports, as well as models, wine, cooking, history amongst many…; a teaser with an inoffensive sense of humor, a true sportsman, ingenious and persistent: you never gave up until you found a solution..., easy to get along with, with a natural empathy, adaptable and at ease with all ages...; your English was so pleasant to hear that even those with a poor level could understand, and we all especially enjoyed the precision of your explanations and had a great deal of fun comparing and exchanging expressions and turn of phrase...
You had traveled a great deal, for your work, your pleasure and visiting your family scattered all over the world (Dubai, Australia among others...); the stories of your many adventures were always amusing and exciting...

You have always had a very strong sense of family...your relationships with your parents, Tante Mary and Oncle Charles, your brother Paul and your sisters Monica and Michelle, who left us too early, your brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law were exceptionally warm...Not to mention your little family, with Sue and Faye, of whom you were so proud. Your French family was also very dear to you: your visits were regular: first with your family, then with Sue, with her wonderful personality and her warmth, whom we all adored and who made us laugh so much...; your visits were always a celebration... In the autumn of '78, you came to introduce us to Faye..("our greatest achievement, but we don't quite know how it works yet"...). In the summer of 2011, you organised a wedding festivity in Lyon for Faye and Hugh, it was a beautiful, joyful and memorable family gathering for all of us... And you, you have faithfully shared our happiness (weddings,..) and our sorrows (deaths of our parents, your aunts and uncles,...), and, all these years, you have warmly welcomed many of us into your home...
You were totally and admirably devoted to caring for Sue during her illness;  very touched by her loss, we have shared your grief with both you and Faye.

When in 2015, you decided to get closer to your roots, you were enthusiastically welcomed in everyone's home, in Lyon (the family's cradle), Peyrignac, Grenoble, Sète, thus strengthening your links with everyone. During this first stage, mainly in Lyon, you quickly made friends, through various activities; biking, sightseeing, going to restaurants, or for a drink with your French nieces,...; you also worked as a volunteer at the Restos du Coeur. You adapted so well living in Lyon that you decided to move to Lyon permanently, buying a flat where you could welcome Faye and her little tribe, British family and friends. You continued visiting the UK frequently, until the pandemic...
Then one day a mutual friend took you to AVF (Accueil Villes Françaises), where you soon integrated into a group of friends...

And it was amidst them that you met a new great love: Catherine. A beginning of yet another new life/adventure...
Great happiness when you moved to Six-Fours and settled in your charming house, in a region that you liked very much, reminding you of your childhood holidays, and its climate: you loved to lounge on the terrace (and by the way Faye suggests that you could be reincarnated as a cat purring in the sun…) while remaining very active, to make your home more and more welcoming... Several times a day, you would shout: "I'm going to the office!": it was the shed/hut, your little paradise, transformed into a workshop and model factory. And your family has grown again, with Renée, and Catherine's brother and his family.
You spent some very happy days, taking care of each other, exchanging your recipes, going for walks, exploring the surrounding (you, running, during your daily jogs…); you were starting to make local acquaintances. You had many plans, visits and trips, especially to finally be able to meet up with your grandchildren again, whom you missed so much...
We will never forget your "two" weddings, first in Lyon in April 2019 (you had taken over a restaurant to welcome all your "fans") but especially the one in Sanary in September, with your superb wedding party and a gourmet, even gastronomic reception; with a particularly cheerful, warm, international, convivial and family atmosphere...; testimony of your happiness, harmony and complicity.  Your dances, especially your "strip tease" on a tune of Aznavour will remain in our memories for ever.

Among those who attended, we are many gathered around you today to surround you with our affection and love; those who could not come are present with their messages, their flowers and their contribution to the remembrance site with their testimonies, photos and donations to the associations close to your heart.

You leave us so suddenly, so abruptly!...
You will not be able to follow through with all your plans, and your life with Catherine was too short!
You won't be able to see your grandchildren grow, share good times you had planned with family and friends.
it breaks our hearts...
we find it difficult to accept your departure...

You, André, the perfectionist, with your exemplary English, you seemed to be troubled by French! You had certainly made a great deal of effort and progressed enormously, but every time we will hear words like "fourrure", we will hear your very personal pronunciation...; the same goes for some of your unique turn of phrases and great bursts of laughter...; we each have our memories, which we will cherish...
André, it's difficult to stop talking to you... So one last remark: it takes months to organise a wedding... but to prepare this last meeting, we missed your sense of organisation...; we smiled, thinking that you had to smile too...

Rest assured, André, we will stand by Catherine, preserve our ties with Faye and do our best to ensure that Evan, Isaac and Zoé will always feel at home in France.

Today, even the sky is crying: it is pouring, raining "cats and dogs"...

We already miss you so much...
We love you and will keep you in our hearts
